Face Lift
Facelifts improve the overall appearance of the face and jaw by reducing facial wrinkles and other signs of aging. A facelift involves lifting and tightening the underlying muscles of the face and removing excess pockets of fat and skin to create desired contours and rejuvenate the facial structure.
Technically referred to as a rhytidectomy, today’s advanced, minimally invasive techniques minimize discomfort and downtime while providing a fresher, more youthful appearance for years to come. Incisions are typically hidden in the contour of the ear and into the hairline and are easily concealed by hair and makeup.
Dr. Meredith has over a decade of experience, practicing multiple types of facelift techniques, to create the desired outcomes. The procedure is typically done as day surgery allowing most patients to recover at home and return to normal activities within a few weeks.
Prior to the procedure, Dr. Meredith will discuss important considerations and anticipated outcomes with each patient, including:
- Personal reasons for the surgery, expectations and desired outcomes
- Whether a facelift is the best way to achieve the desired outcomes
- Overview of surgical approaches, options, risks and benefits
- Recovery process and post surgical care
- How to maintain face lift results for years to come
Eye Lids
The shape and contour of the eyes contribute to a person’s overall appearance. The skin surrounding the eyes is very delicate and over time, collagen and elastin around the eyes decreases, resulting in loose skin, wrinkles and the appearance of bags or hollowness.
Clinically referred to as a blepharoplasty, an eye lid lift is a common surgical procedure that is performed on an outpatient basis. It involves removing excess fat and skin and tightening of the lax muscles that contribute to the ‘sags and bags’ that can detract from the appeal of the eyes.
Blepharoplasty can be performed alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures of the face.
Patients considering a eye lid lift, either combined with other procedures or on its own, can expect to discuss the following important considerations with Dr. Meredith:
- Personal reasons for the surgery, expectations and desired outcomes
- Any risks or potential complications associated with blepharoplasty
- Whether you have any pre-existing eyelid conditions
- How best to preparing for this surgery
- What to expect regarding recovery time and care instructions
Nose
It is possible to change the size, shape and profile of the nose. Sometimes it is done for medical reasons to correct disfigurement, nasal trauma or breathing problems but most often it is a cosmetic procedure sought for personal reasons. Even slight alterations can have a dramatic effect on appearance and most importantly, self esteem, confidence, body image and overall quality of life.
Clinically referred to as a Rhinoplasty, it is performed under general anesthesia where the surgeon uses a series of techniques to revise the nose contour while maintaining skin colour and texture similar to a patient’s original nose.
Prior to the procedure, Dr. Meredith will discuss important considerations and anticipated outcomes with each patient, including:
- Reasons for reconstruction
- Any risks or potential complications associated with Rhinoplasty
- Surgical techniques
- Post surgical recovery and care
Ears
Ear surgery, also known as Otoplasty, can improve the shape, position and proportion of the ears. A specific type of Otoplasty, known as Pinnaplasty or ear-pinning, reduces the degree of projection of the ears. While sometimes done to correct a condition from birth or trauma to the ear, ear surgery is often sought by individuals who are unhappy with the size, shape or projection of their ears and find it affects their overall satisfaction with their appearance.
Successful Otoplasty requires an experienced plastic surgeon who also has a keen eye for modifying the ears, in balance with the face and head, to achieve an outcome that compliments a persons overall appearance.
Dr. Meredith is both. You can expect to discuss the following considerations when meeting with Dr. Meredith about ear surgery:
- What makes a good candidate for this procedure
- Any risks or potential complications associated with otoplasty
- What shape, size, surface texturing, incision site and placement site are best recommended
- Length of recovery and post surgical care
Neck
The neck is an important part of a persons appearance and often shows signs of aging such as wrinkles and sagging skin. People often desire more definition of their lower jawline and neck.
Known clinically as Cervicoplasty, a neck lift is a cosmetic procedure involving fine incisions beneath the chin and behind each ear, the removal of excess fat and the tightening of floppy muscles to provide a more aesthetically appealing neck that more closely resembles what it was like when a patient was much younger.
If you are considering a neck lift, this is what you can anticipate discussing with Dr. Meredith:
- Personal goals and both surgical and non-surgical treatment options
- Anticipated outcomes
- Risks and potential complications
- Recommended surgical techniques and post surgical care
- What to expect the neck lift to look like over time
